I have created a radio documentary investigating how theatre in the UK is affected by the ongoing global recession. The finished programme differs from the original objectives, but I am very proud of it nonetheless.
I started in October 2009. I have learned a lot about not only independent working in general, but about how difficult the practicalities of securing and carrying out interviews can be.
I have dealt with and met many people including agents, assistants, TV and radio presenter Chris Evans, actor Kevin Spacey and other journalists while making my documentary. The experience has been at times exasperating but ultimately enjoyable and fulfilling.
The finished documentary has been available in full on this website since May 2010. It features an interview with actor Peter Davison, best known for his roles as Tristan in ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL and as the fifth incarnation of the Doctor in DOCTOR WHO. My other interviewee is Liz Thompson, the director of communications at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Both give fascinating insights in to their professions and I was thrilled to secure their appearances.
You can now listen to the first part of my documentary, THE PHANTOM RECESSION, below.
Running time: 14 minutes. See legal and other information.
